PLAY! SMARTS: Skincare By Age: 40s

PLAY! SMARTS: Skincare By Age: 40s

When I heard Sephora was offering a Play! Box of Skincare based on age I was ecstatic. I am into skincare and Sephora sometimes gives out high end expensive samples in these boxes. I felt disappointed in the 30s box since I am in my 30s but when I looked at the 40s box, my jaw dropped.

The 40s box had two Sunday Riely products and Tatcha. I had to order it. Since Sephora said it was worth $92 and was only charging $20, I would be crazy not to order.

So when my box arrived today I was more than happy to unbox it and break down the value. I was excited when I opened it. The Tatcha sample ended up to be a disappointment. I thought sample was huge. I was unhappy to find the box had cardboard it it to make it look like there was more product.

Here was what was in the box.

  • Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment

  • Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream

  • Kiehl’s since 1851 Glow Formula Skin Hydrator

  • Volition Beauty Detox Silt Gelee Mask

  • Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil

  • Tatcha The Water Cream

Tatcha The Water Cream is $68 for 1.70 oz or 50 ml the sample you receive is equal to 10% if a full size jar. Making the cream worth $1.36 per ml. The sample is worth $6.80.

Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment the value size 1.70 ounces or 50 ml at $158. So Good Genes is worth $3.16 a ml the sample I received was 5ml so tiny tube is worth $15.80.

Caudalie Premier Cru Eye Cream is $99 for 5oz or 15 millilters. With the sample tube giving you 5 ml that means this sample is worth $19.80.

The Kiehl’s since 1851 Glow Formula Skin Hydrator is 1.7o oz or 50ml for $38. The tube you receive is 5ml making this sample's value $3.80.

Volition Beauty Detox Silt Gelee Mask is $60 for 2oz or 60 milliters. The sample is 15 ml making this mask samples value $15.

Sunday Riley Luna Sleeping Night Oil is $105 for 1 oz or 30 millilters. The sample is 5ml placing this retinol sample's value at $17.50.

When you do the math $78.70 is not $92.00. So the bag that comes with the boxes value must be $13.30.

So is Play! Smarts Skincare by age box a good value? Yes. Especially when you consider that the other age boxes have less valuable items in them.

But, because these are high end and expensive items Sephora could have given us bigger samples. The bottom line is skin care products like this are expensive and it can take 4-8 weeks to see results. Smaller samples may not be enough to see a result or get you hooked. Still it is a good value and if you use these products sparingly or spot treat, they can last even longer.

If Sephora offered another skincare box with the bigger sizes, I would pay more for the box. I would also wish there was the option to buy a bag less box.

Over all the real value comes from the Sunday Riley samples. I think the best sample in here is the Volition mask. The Volition mask is the winner with the most positive feedback out the products. It also should deliver better results for blackheads.

If you use the mask and then apply the Tatcha Water Cream that will be the best solution for blackheads. A lot of anti-aging products do not help with blackheads and enlarged pores. So I appreciate these products.

I should address the two Sunday Riley products. For, a long time beauty experts said you shouldn’t use lactic acid at the same time as retinol. Basically, there’s no research to back it up according to a few websites. I am linking you to a helpful Beautiful With Brains Post.

Research before using skincare products. For example, salicylic acid will make vitamin C ineffective. So I urge you to research your ingredients in your skin care routine and make sure they work together. I know that these boxes will sell out soon. So I recommend you get one while you still can.
