21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Realtime By Beachbody Review

The 21 Day Fix and Real Time are my go-to workouts when I am in between programs or training for a running race. I also use 21 Day Fix if I have I stop working out over 2 weeks and need to get back into a routine.

When I listed the best Beachbody on Demand workouts to do at home 21 Day Fix or 21 Day Fix Real time was my number one pick because 21 Day Fix is the most comprehensive program Beachbody offers for any fitness level.

If you follow Autumn’s meal plan and use her portion control containers, odds are in 21 days, you’re going to see results. We can debate about nutrition, or calories in calories out, bottom line: if you’re eating good and you’re exercising every day, you’re going to see a change in your body. Take your measurements before and after starting the 21 Day Fix, you will see a difference. Your diet matters, remember that.

The 21 Day Fix workouts are daily, and they are about half an hour. Every day for 21 days you work out for half an hour. If you do the bonus abs it’s about 40 mins a day. The workouts are strength training workouts that are different each time, Pilates workouts, yoga, and cardio workouts.

There is nothing innovative, just traditional exercises that work. What makes the 21 Day Fix special is its no nonsense. There’s no special equipment or gimmicks. Well, perhaps the portion control containers are, but really they are not because portion control will help you get fit. 21 Day Fix is a solid workout plan.

Here is a rundown of the pros and the cons of 21 Day Fix or 21 Day fix Real Time, so you can decide if it’s right for you:

The Pros

  • The workouts are for everyone. Everyone’s doing the same moves unless you’re following the modifier which in 21 Day Fix you can see her. She’s upfront, and it’s easy to follow along.

  • Beginners, do the modified version with no weights or light weights. To make that work out harder, you just increase your weights. It’s simple.

  • Autumn Calabrese is a great instructor. She doesn’t talk too much and is not annoying. Autumn gives solid instructions and creates excellent workouts. She’s one of my favorite trainers because she is so down to earth, has a good sense of humor and relatable. The people in her videos seem to have fun and enjoy the workouts which helps me. Having an instructor that you like makes doing the workout easier and gives you one less reason to quit. It helps Autumn shows most moves before preforming them, which makes it easier to follow along.

  • Beachbody updated the workout with the 21 Day Fix Real Time, you can do the 21 Day Fix and follow up with 21 Day Fix Real Time. Some people cycle between the workouts and increase the weights for better results.

  • Honestly, if you’re interested in the workout only 21 Day Fix great work out. There’s no catch. No special equipment that you have to buy you just need weights. You won’t need to modify many of the moves unless you have back or knee issues, but there’s a modifier you can follow. The 21 Day Fix is something you can’t go wrong with.

The Cons

  • Autumn expects you to work out every single day. For some, this is not practical. I am a busy mom of three with a new rescue dog. Most days I don’t have time. You could take a rest day, which defeats a 21 day premise. Taking a one to two days off while following the program makes this program workable when you do not have 7 days a week to workout.

  • In Real Time there are times you cannot see the modifier. Depending which service you use to stream Beachbody on Demand, there isn’t always a modifier version of the workout. This allows you to view the modifier at all times. I use Roku and do not have that option, so seeing the modifier is crucial so that you can follow along with ease.

  • I have been a Beachbody on Demans subscriber for years and I pay for my subscription out-of-pocket, which is $99 a year. Likewise, I could spend that much or more on exercise DVDs or classes. If you want to buy the 21 Day Fix work out set on DVD, that can be expensive. You could subscribe for Beachbody on Demand. Because it’s a 21 day program, you could subscribe for one month to try this workout. If you purchase the 21 DAy Fix pack, which includes the portion control and containers and other items, it’s going to cost you. It’s cheaper to subscribe to Beachbody on Demand and Amazon buy 21 Day Fix containers on Amazon.

  • I don’t recall there being much mention of Beachbody’s nutrition products in the original 21 Day Fix, but they mention it more in the 21 Day Fix Real Time. Beachbody sells nutrition products, gear, and accessories besides workouts. So you will hear these products mentioned in many of their fitness programs as long as it’s not mentioned excessively it doesn’t bother me. For some, it is a dealbreaker. Personally, it bothers me because I paid to do the workout I do not want to see and hear product placement. Yet that seems to be everywhere I let it go.

  • Though the workouts are different, you can become bored. While the workouts are fresh enough, they are similar you might get a bored. If you like doing a different work out daily, 21 Day Fix is great, but some moves you’ll do repeatedly like mountain climbers or Burpee’s.

If you want to build muscle, and you’re already fit, this is not enough. Following a low-fat diet and lifting heavy will. The 21 Day Fix is not intense enough to give you the washboard abs Autumn has in the promotional photos for 21 Day Fix.

  • If you're stuck in a plateau or plus-sized like me, you may have to follow the diet to see better results. If you don’t focus on nutrition and count your macros or use the portion control containers with the diet, you may not see results like the before and after photos. You need a calorie deficit and enough nutrients, especially protein.

Final Thoughts

Bottom line: this is the type of workout you do to lose or maintain. It’s not something that’s going to give you dramatic results if you are already in great shape. For dramatic results would recommend you try P90X, #mbf, or LIIFT 4.

The 21 Day Fix and The 21 Day Fix Real Time are solid workouts to help you develop and establish a routine or keep you on track. The workouts are tried-and-true exercises that are effective. Autumn planned the workouts you get flexibility training with the yoga which is an active rest day. You cannot go wrong with the 21 Day Fix if you are looking to start a new routine and healthier lifestyle.
